The annual CxO event will address the Healthcare Information Technology landscape after EHR —What’s on the Near Horizon.  Russ Branzell, CEO of CHIME, will deliver the keynote on the IT Revolution and the challenges facing organizations.    The event will also address the role of analytics to support the changes on the horizon, patient engagement strategies, shifts in care models as EHR adoption and maturity advances.  The event will also include a discussion of ACOs and the complexity of integrating data from disparate organizations.

Russell Branzell, FCHIME, CHCIO
President and CEO of CHIME

Russ BranzellRussell P. Branzell is the current President and CEO of the College of Healthcare Information Executives (CHIME).
Prior to his role as President and CEO of CHIME, Branzell served as CEO for the Colorado Health Medical Group. Before serving as CEO of Colorado Health, he was the Vice President of Information Services and CIO for Poudre Valley Health System and the President/CEO of Innovation Enterprises (PVHS' for-profit IS entity). Before joining PVHS, Branzell was the Regional Deputy CIO and Executive Director of Information Services for Sisters of Mercy Health System in St. Louis, Mo. Before his time in St. Louis, Branzell served on active duty in the United States Air Force and retired from the Air Force Reserves in 2008. While on active duty, he served in numerous healthcare administration positions including CIO for the Air Mobility Command Surgeon General’s Office. In 1996, he was selected for the Air Force Medical Service Fellowship program and completed a CIO Internship at the Unity Health System in St. Louis.
A native of San Antonio, Branzell earned an undergraduate degree in business administration specializing in human resource management and labor relations from the University of Texas. In addition, he earned a Master’s degree in Aerospace Science from Embry-Riddle University with an emphasis in management.

George ReynoldsDr. Reynolds is Vice President, Chief Medical Informatics Officer and Chief Information Officer at Children’s Hospital & Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. He is board certified in Pediatric Critical Care and General Pediatrics. He also holds a masters degree in Medical Management from Carnegie Mellon University.

He received the AMDIS Award in Applied Medical Informatics in 2007. In 2010, he was recognized by Modern Healthcare as one of the 25 top Clinical Informaticists. During his tenure as CMIO and CIO, the Children’s and the IT Department have been recognized three times as a Most Wired hospital and twice as one of InformationWeek’s top 250 innovators. They received Eclipsys’ first Presidents Award. In 2011, Healthcare Informatics awarded Children’s first place in their Healthcare IT Innovators Awards and Healthcare IT News named Children’s one of the 10 best places to work in healthcare IT in 2011 and again in 2012.

Dr. Reynolds has 20 years of experience in a broad range of physician leadership roles. His current responsibilities include IT strategic planning, enterprise EHR implementation, CDS design and implementation, and physician adoption as well as oversight for all IT operations. Using commercially available business intelligence software, his team has developed clinical analytics tools that monitor both clinical and financial performance and guide system enhancements in order to optimize outcomes.

Bill Gillis

Bill GillisBill Gillis, is the Chief Information Officer for Beth Israel Deaconess Care Organization (BIDCO). Bill has worked in the healthcare IT segment for over fifteen years. He specializes in EMR/EHR & HIE/Interoperability strategies, technologies and deployments. Bill led the team that deployed the first ambulatory EMR system for BIDMC affiliates in 1997. As well as working for BIDMC and its affiliated organizations, Bill provides guidance to physician practices, Health Centers and physician organizations with their transition from paper to electronic records. He is currently on the technical subcommittee for the State Health Information Exchange (Mass HIway) for Massachusetts. Bill has been a guest speaker on eHealth Technologies for Harvard Medical School, Boston University, Suffolk University and numerous industry events and conferences. Bill also works with several nonprofit organizations whose mission is to improve healthcare in developing countries through the use of technology. Along with his HIT accomplishments, he has competed in several international motorsports events such as the Daytona 200, Isle of Man TT, Baja 1000 and the Bonneville Speed Trails. Bill works directly with John Halamka, CIO CareGroup/Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and CIO Harvard Medical School.

Kara MarxKara Marx, RN, MHS is the Vice President and Chief Information Officer of Methodist Hospital Southern California located in greater Los Angeles area. Methodist Hospital, founded in 1903, is a 460-bed, not-for-profit hospital serving the central San Gabriel Valley.
Prior to joining Methodist Hospital, Kara worked as a consultant with several consulting firms including IBM and First Consulting Group where she had the opportunity to engage with many leading health care organizations across the country to contribute to their strategic goals. Additionally, Kara has experience working with a major health care IT software vendor. Kara has held many different roles during her career contributing to her unique background of clinical practice, consulting and software development/implementation.
Kara is a Registered Nurse and has a Master’s Degree in Healthcare Sciences. As a Registered Nurse Kara spent many years providing patient care in the ambulatory and acute care setting on the East Coast.
Kara is actively involved in many industry organizations including HIMSS and ACHE of which she is a Fellow in both. Additionally, she is currently serving on the Advisory Board for KLAS, a Healthcare I.T. research firm and teaching at University of Southern California.

Randy OsteenRandy Osteen, RN, is the Associate Chief Information Officer and Vice President, Information Management Strategy and Applications at CHRISTUS Health, a large Catholic health care delivery system based in Irving, Texas. Randy has 35 years of experience in healthcare, with 13 years in practice as a registered nurse and 22 years in health information technology. He places strong focus on improving the quality of patient care, operations, customer service and business literacy using technology, data standardization and business/clinical process design.
Randy also focuses on the potential application of leading-edge and emerging technologies in meeting the challenges of today’s healthcare environment, as well as providing services beyond the walls of the traditional hospital setting. He was involved in early development of patient care applications as Director of Clinical Systems with INTEGRIS Health, a not-for-profit integrated delivery system based in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and ultimately became Systems Officer for INTEGRIS, responsible for all business and clinical system applications development, implementation and support functions.
Randy began work with CHRISTUS Health in 2001 as Director of Research and Development, where he established the Project Management Office (PMO), developed processes and procedures for new/innovative technology development and acquisition, and led technology rationalization processes focused on reducing systems complexity and improving information technology service to the organization. As part of this role, he led an organization-wide, multi-year initiative called Unity Project, which focused on consolidation to a single, standards-based HIS accompanied by best-practice process and data standardization across the entire CHRISTUS organization. In addition to his nursing degree, Randy has a Master of Business Administration degree from Marylhurst University.
