Chapter Leadership - Bios
Jason Johnson, FHIMSS, CISSP, PMP, President
Jason gravitated towards healthcare after running his own firm for many years. Over the last decade, he has overseen several areas including Citrix, Domain architecture, Help Desk, enterprise software rollouts, telecommunications, VoIP, data center migrations, network upgrades, and ambulatory technology.
Most recently, as Information Security Officer at Marin General Hospital, Jason is responsible for leading the information security program and managing hospital communications infrastructure. Jason's passion is to create an exceptional healing environment in which technology complements patient care. Jason holds an B.S. in Business Administration, and several industry certifications. Jason has also been recognized as one of the youngest Fellows (FHIMSS) and was awarded the designation in 2018.
Jason has been attending HIMSS national and local events for years and got involved as a Board Director in 2015. Since then, he has chaired or co-chaired events, served as Technology Chair, and served as Programs Chair.
On the weekends you can find Jason looking for new routes for spirited drives with a car club or trying out a new recipe in the kitchen. Over the years he has done other volunteer work with Ohlone College, Middletown Merchant's Association, and other non-profits.
Jenni Bendfeldt, President-Elect
Jenni has been a member of the NorCal HIMSS board since 2015, first as a volunteer for events and serving on the membership committee, then as membership chair before being appointed as the Secretary. As part of the Executive Committee, she has helped guide the chapter through difficult times, led board meetings in the absence of the President, written a number of standard operating procedures and helped spearhead the revision of the chapter’s bylaws.
Jenni has worked in healthcare for over a decade, in clinical, operational, technical, advisory, and leadership capacities. She spent the last 6 years working as a consultant for a top-tier firm and in January 2019 founded her own consulting company, RecastHealth where she works with startups. She has published several articles related to EHRs, care coordination, emerging technologies, and healthcare innovation. She’s presented her insights to audiences across the US and is a guest lecturer for Berkeley’s Haas School of Business’s DeCAL Future of Healthcare Class. She holds a Bachelors degree in Nutritional Science/Dietetics and Psychology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a Masters Degree in Healthcare Administration from Suffolk’s Sawyer Business School.
While serving as the President-Elect, Jenni will continue building partnerships with other local nonprofits, serve as a thought leader and content writer for our chapter newsletter, be an adviser to the membership committee, and continue her work on refining our chapter’s policies and procedures. When she’s not working, Jenni enjoys going to concerts, cooking, and hanging out with friends and her dog, Sven.
Nick Steinbach, Past President
Senior Healthcare Strategist, Dimension Data Inc.
Nick is a seasoned IT solutions specialist with over 14 years of experience selling, managing and delivering complex projects. Expertise includes staff augmentation, consulting and turnkey solution sets within the Healthcare Industry. Experience with large scale enterprise initiatives for Clinical Mobility, Telehealth and Patient Observation technologies that require coordination with stakeholders from the Clinical, Business and IT groups. Nick has been on the board for the past 5 years with roles as the Sponsorship Chair and CxO Event Chair.
Lauren Mock, Secretary
Lauren Mock is an Analyst in information management and analytics at Slalom Consulting, where she works at the intersection of business strategy and governance for healthcare and high-tech application technology to increase operational effectiveness and efficiency. Lauren has been interested in the nexus of healthcare, technology and business and is fascinated by how they all mesh together to improve health outcomes.
Lauren comes from Kaiser Permanente, HIMSS, and Sutter Health working in strategic applications of innovative health information, wearable and mobile technologies, lean medicine, and healthcare technology, management and policy. She graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, majoring in Public Health and minoring in Public Policy.
Lauren actively volunteers on the Board for the Northern California chapter of HIMSS, leading Health IT innovation, education and media initiatives. She also works with the UC Berkeley College of Engineering to evangelize computer science to underrepresented minorities nationwide.
Jeff Hawley, Treasurer

HIMSS Experience and Interests
Jeff has been a member of HIMSS since 1997 and a member of the NorCal Chapter Board for twelve years. He has been an officer of the Corporation for 8 years having served as President twice and Treasurer. He has served on various committees as member and Chairperson and is currently the Chair, Communications Committee. In addition, he has been a reviewer and moderator for the National HIMSS Education Committee for 4 years. He also served as Chair of the National Chapter Leader Task Force in addition to being on the task force for 4 years. Board interests and goals include expanding the educational reach of our programs to include more students implementing a program to connect students seeking internships with vendors and providers offering internships and improving communications internally and externally to engage a more diverse community to the mission and value of HIMSS.
Jeff is a seasoned health care professional with a combined background in clinical laboratory medicine, information technology, healthcare vendor experience and IT Healthcare consulting. He is a Clinical Laboratory Scientist by training including clinical and anatomic pathology. Jeff has served as Director of a clinical laboratory, CIO of a community faith-based hospital, Director of Sales and Support for a nationally recognized healthcare software vendor and healthcare consultant with international experience managing numerous IT system selections, implementations, strategy planning, assessments and IT system transformations. Jeff is a Principal with Impact Advisors, a Best in KLAS consulting firm specializing in strategic advisory and implementation services.
Earned a Bachelors Degree in Health Sciences, California State University, Hayward; Masters Program in Molecular and Cell Biology, California State University, Hayward; MBA program, California State University School of Business.
Nancy Hall, Advocacy Chair, Sponsorship Chair
Nancy has over 20 years of Healthcare Information Technology experience, and has worked in the government, not-for-profit, and private Health sectors implementing information technology and developing strategies and plans that align technology with the goals of the business. Nancy has worked extensively with physicians, having lead information technology for several Medical Groups in her career. Currently she is the Chief Information Officer at MedAmerica/CEP America, the third largest Emergency Physician Medical Group in the country. Ms. Hall is an experienced public speaker and facilitator and participates in speaking forums on Information Systems and Strategic Planning, facilitates and leads strategic planning sessions, and is active in advocacy and healthcare policy at the state and national level. Ms. Hall is a member of the College of HealthCare Information Executives and is a Certified Healthcare CIO.

Nik Tehrani, Education Chair
HIMSS Experience and Interests
Dr. Nik Tehrani is a member of HIMSS at both local and national level. As an active member of Northern California HIMSS Chapter, he serves as the Co-Chair of Education Committee as well as a member of the Innovation and Technology committee. His interests are developing marketing tools for patient engagement, digital health, and enhancing patient experience.
Dr. Nik Tehrani is Vice President of Business Development of DynoSense Corp., and has over 25 years’ experience in business management, marketing, and supply chain development and implementation. He has also over 15 years of teaching experience as a lecturer and professor at various prestigious universities in the San Francisco Bay Area. Prior to DynoSense, he was President and CEO of Savitron, Inc., an Electronic Manufacturing Solution Company; Global Director of Program Management at Sanmina-SCI, a leading EMS provider; Managing Director and Founder of Majital Solutions, a marketing and engineering consulting company; and Vice President of Marketing and Engineering of ACI, an Electronic Manufacturing Company. A mentor and doctoral student advisor, Dr. Tehrani is also author of several textbooks and peer-reviewed medical journal articles.
Advisers & Board Volunteers
Michelle Heimann has been part of the NorCal HIMSS Board for 5 years. She started off as a volunteer, helping out with registration at all of the events. She is now serving her third year as Logistics Chair, and is responsible for event spaces, catering, and registration. Michelle has worked in the Information Technology space, and now is a Healthcare Informatics Specialist after coming from a background in teaching. Michelle has a BA in Liberal Studies and a Masters in Education.
Dr. Bob Wilkov
HIMSS Experience and Interests
Dr. Bob has been a member of HIMSS at both the local and national level for over 15 years. He has been active with the Northern California HIMSS Chapter since 2008. Dr. Bob is a Member Liaison for the Northern California HIMSS Chapter.
Dr. Bob is currently the President of Application and Network Solutions for healthcare. He has twenty years of experience managing large client clinical projects. He developed a detailed quality matrix for John Muir Health, mapping all quality metrics to requiring agency as well as Meaningful Use. He managed the delivery of a Portal based RHIO solution for Geisinger Health Systems. He developed a plan and processes to roll out Epic across the Cleveland Clinic Health System and built a project management team at Kaiser where he managed a team of project managers and developed strategies and plans to support an Epic rollout throughout the enterprise. He spearheaded major six-sigma transformation effort across a 2000 person software development laboratory that resulted in winning the Malcolm Baldridge Quality Award. He worked with clinical and business leaders at Cleveland Clinic to expand Epic from the main campus to the nine hospitals and private practices across the greater Cleveland Area. At Kaiser, Cleveland Clinic and Geisinger, he worked closely with and earned the respect of end-users, including physicians and other clinicians, regarding ongoing activities around the HIE and EMRs and provided leadership to guide and influence adherence to the IT organizational goals and objectives. Dr. Bob built the first systems integration team in IBM that evolved into IBM Global Services.
