Executive Committee

Jenni Bendfeldt, President

Working in healthcare for over 13 years, Jenni is a pragmatic leader on a mission to improve healthcare through creativity, technology, empathy, and innovation. Jenni has been a member of the NorCal HIMSS board since 2015, first as a volunteer for events, then as membership chair before being appointed to the Executive Committee as Secretary. Jenni has spearheaded initiatives to improve chapter operations, introduce data insights into decision-making processes, and bring insights from some of healthcare’s greatest thought leaders to our membership.

 

Jenni is the Founder & CEO of RecastHealth, a consulting firm that works with digital health startups and recently began working as a consultant for Kaiser Permanente. She’s published several articles related to healthcare innovation and presented her insights to audiences across the US. Jenni is also a guest lecturer for UC Berkeley: DeCAL Future of Healthcare Class and judges healthcare startup pitch contests. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Nutritional Science/Dietetics and Psychology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a Masters Degree in Healthcare Administration from Suffolk’s Sawyer Business School.

 

In 2020, Jenni received designation as a HIMSS Fellow (FHIMSS) as a result of her contributions over the years. In her free time Jenni enjoys cooking, reading, and finding new ways to stay connected to family and friends.

Bridget Burke, President-Elect

Originally from New York City, Bridget attended Columbia University and held positions as Chief Technology Officer at Interlogix, United Technologies Corp.; Vice President, Chief Information Officer and Chief Security Officer at HID; and served as Chair of the ASIS Global Information Technology Security Council.

 

Bridget was appointed to the HIMSS Northern California Board in 2019 and previously served as Education Committee Chair, Clinical Advisory Council Chair, North Bay Meetup Founder, and launched the Nursing Informatics Special Interest Group. 

 

She enjoys cultivating collaborative relationships and developing opportunities that enable HIMSS members and affiliate healthcare organizations to expand their expertise and professional networks.


Jason Johnson, Past President


Jason has been in the technology and security fields since 2007 and spent much of that time with hospitals in Northern California. Through the years, he has managed high volume IT help desks and telecommunications teams, led enterprise software implementations, stood up security programs, and rode the wave of EHRs rollouts. Now leading the global healthcare governance team at Amazon, Jason is using his experience at the intersection of healthcare, technology, and security, to transform healthcare in the US and around the world.

 

Jason has served HIMSS Northern California since 2015 as Programs Chair, Event Chair (many times over), and finally as President. He holds a B.S. Degree in Business, CISSP and PMP certifications, a Six Sigma Yellow Belt, and a HIMSS Fellow designation. Outside of work, you’ll find Jason looking for new cycling routes, exploring his new home, the Pacific Northwest, and trying new recipes with his wife.

Lauren Mock, Secretary

Lauren Mock has been a member of the HIMSS NorCal Board since 2017, but first joined the Chapter in 2012 as a student member serving on the Education Committee. Lauren was presented the HIMSS Foundation’s Northern California Chapter Scholarship in 2015, and has continued her support of chapter initiatives by volunteering on the Programs and Marketing Committees, chairing the Programs Committee, and most recently, undertaking the role of Secretary. Lauren is interested in the nexus of healthcare, data, technology and business and is fascinated by how they all mesh together to improve health outcomes.

Lauren comes from Apple, Kaiser Permanente, HIMSS, and Sutter Health working in the strategic applications of mobile technologies, innovative health information, lean medicine, and healthcare technology, management and policy. She graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, with degrees in Public Health and Public Policy.

Jeff Hawley, Treasurer

Jeff has been a member of HIMSS since 1997 and a member of the Northern California Chapter Board for seventeen years. He has been an officer of the Chapter for 15 years having served as President twice and Treasurer three times. He has served on various committees as member and Chairperson and is currently the Treasurer. In addition, he has been a reviewer and moderator for the National HIMSS Education Committee for 5 years. On the National front, he served as member, Vice Chair and Chair, Chapter Leaders Task Force for HIMSS National over a 5-year period.

Jeff is a seasoned health care professional with a combined background in clinical laboratory medicine, information technology, healthcare vendor experience and IT Healthcare consulting. He is a Clinical Laboratory Scientist by training including clinical and anatomic pathology.

Jeff has served as Director of a clinical laboratory, CIO of a community faith-based hospital, Director of Sales and Support, Western Region for a healthcare software vendor and is currently a healthcare consultant with extensive national and international experience managing numerous IT system selections, implementations, strategy, planning, assessments and IT system transformations.

Jeff has worked with large academic medical centers and integrated delivery systems, community hospitals, federal and state-level institutions and government health ministries in Canada, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Finland and Chile. Jeff is a Principal with Impact Advisors, a Best In KLAS consulting firm specializing in strategic advisory and implementation services in the healthcare IT arena.
 

Committee Chairs 

Nancy Hall, Advocacy

Nancy has over 20 years of Healthcare Information Technology experience, and has worked in the government, not-for-profit, and private Health sectors implementing information technology and developing strategies and plans that align technology with the goals of the business. Nancy has worked extensively with physicians, having lead information technology for several Medical Groups in her career. Currently she is the Chief Information Officer at MedAmerica/CEP America, the third largest Emergency Physician Medical Group in the country.

Ms. Hall is an experienced public speaker and facilitator and participates in speaking forums on Information Systems and Strategic Planning, facilitates and leads strategic planning sessions, and is active in advocacy and healthcare policy at the state and national level. Ms. Hall is a member of the College of HealthCare Information Executives and is a Certified Healthcare CIO.

Sofia Chancey, Education

Sofia is an accomplished executive with over 22 years of success in the healthcare, technology, and telecommunications industries in the US and Australia. Leveraging extensive experience as a liaison between technology departments and business teams, she is a valuable asset for established and growth businesses aiming to incorporate technology for market disruption.

 

Sofia is a co-founder of Pangalo Group, a strategy and learning studio. Passion Persuades is our ethos, underpinning everything we do, fueling our expertise to build innovative, inclusive and culturally diverse teams. Prior to co-founding Pangalo Group, Sofia was a Managing Director with Accenture focusing on clients in Healthcare and Public Service.

 

Sofia holds a Bachelors of Science in Nursing degree and started her career in the cardiovascular intensive care unit at Order of Saint Francis Medical Center in Illinois. This is Sofia’s 2nd year on NorCal HIMSS board. She currently serves as the Education Committee Chair focusing on engaging committee members by providing educational content and opportunities for learning, networking and collaboration.

Lori Schulman, Marketing

Lori is an experienced and entrepreneurial health-tech marketing and sales leader in medical devices and health IT focused on alliance partnerships and marketing campaigns in disruptive technologies. With 20+ years in health tech, her career really began in 2011 when she was recruited to work at a medical device startup. It was at ApniCure that she realized that innovative technologies were on the horizon that would give patients and clinicians more diagnostic and treatment options and improve health outcomes. Since then, she has held various leadership roles at cutting edge startups and global organizations ranging from iRhythm Technologies to Roche Diagnostics Information Solutions.

She joined HIMSS NorCal’s board this year as Marketing Chair after serving three years as a marketing committee member. Lori also serves as an advisor to HealthTech Women and is a UCSF Health Hub Start Up Advisor/Mentor.

Charmydevine Beane, Membership

Charmydevine Beane is a trusted advisor leading complex implementation and strategic initiatives for the nation's top healthcare organizations. As an experienced leader in organizational change management and health information technology, her passion is to make a positive impact. Charmydevine has accumulated a wealth of industry experience partnering with safety-net and public hospitals to nationally recognized integrated delivery systems and academic medical centers. With over 20 years of practical experience, Charmydevine brings significant knowledge and expertise to the NorCal HIMSS Chapter. She shares her thought leadership, industry best practices, and lessons learned on the NorCal HIMSS Chapter site here.

Charmydevine is a long-time member of HIMSS and was appointed to the NorCal HIMSS Board of Directors in 2019. She also served for two years as a HIMSS proposal reviewer and session moderator focused on EHR implementation and community-based practice development for the annual HIMSS conferences. As the current NorCal HIMSS Membership Chair, her goals include growing chapter membership, increasing membership engagement, and recruiting and retaining talented board volunteers.

Liz Kearney, Programs

Liz is a thought leader in delivery of genetic services; she speaks and writes nationally about how technology can increase access to genetic information. Liz is Founder of Mainstream Genomics, LLC, an unbiased, comprehensive resource to help women and their partners determine whether and which genetic services are right for their family planning. Liz has held a range of commercial and clinical roles for organizations such as Kaiser Permanente, Johnson & Johnson, and Veracyte, and is a past President of the National Society of Genetic Counselors. Liz has a Master of Science in Human Genetics from the University of Michigan and an MBA in Marketing and Strategy from the Kellogg School of Management.

 

Michelle Heimann, Sponsorship

Michelle is currently a Director, Health Information and Technology for Lumetra Healthcare Solutions, working with providers and clinics in Northern California. Her In-depth knowledge of the healthcare delivery systems, including Meaningful Use, HIPAA, EHR, and workflow with a proven track record of continuous improvement, and education resulting in multimillion dollars in earnings for providers.

Michelle is serving her 8th year on the NorCal HIMSS chapter board, as the Sponsorship Chair. She is responsible for securing sponsorship dollars and maintaining relationships with those that help support our chapter. Formally, she served as the Logistics chair, facilitating and coordinating events ranging from forums, meetings, seminars, conferences and social functions with many healthcare professionals. Her background includes BA in Liberal Studies from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo and a Master’s in Education from Brandman University. In her free time Michelle enjoys spending time with her family, gardening, cooking, bee keeping and taking on DIY projects.
 

Board Advisors

Larry Ozeran, Advocacy

Dr. Larry Ozeran brings a comprehensive approach to healthcare, merging his more than 20 years’ experience in programming, software development, clinical practice, organizational leadership and health policy. As a trauma and general surgeon, he has practiced in a variety of settings, including a multi-specialty medical group, solo practice and a rural health clinic. He has held dozens of leadership roles in clinical medicine, from bylaws and physician compensation committees to the Board of Directors of a hospital and medical group, and in organized medicine at the state and county levels.

With this holistic understanding of healthcare, he supports healthcare entities, government agencies, and startup companies as a strategic consultant with a focus on strategy, policy and innovation. Dr. Ozeran has served HIMSS on the Public Policy Committee and has been involved in several HIMSS responses to proposed federal rulemaking. He has supported the Advocacy Committee of the Northern California Chapter of HIMSS for 6 years.

Nik Tehrani, Education

Dr. Nik Tehrani is a member of HIMSS at both local and national level. As an active member of Northern California HIMSS Chapter, he serves as the Co-Chair of Education Committee as well as a member of the Innovation and Technology committee. His interests are developing marketing tools for patient engagement, digital health, and enhancing patient experience.

Dr. Nik Tehrani is Vice President of Business Development of DynoSense Corp., and has over 25 years’ experience in business management, marketing, and supply chain development and implementation. He has also over 15 years of teaching experience as a lecturer and professor at various prestigious universities in the San Francisco Bay Area. Prior to DynoSense, he was President and CEO of Savitron, Inc., an Electronic Manufacturing Solution Company; Global Director of Program Management at Sanmina-SCI, a leading EMS provider; Managing Director and Founder of Majital Solutions, a marketing and engineering consulting company; and Vice President of Marketing and Engineering of ACI, an Electronic Manufacturing Company. A mentor and doctoral student advisor, Dr. Tehrani is also author of several textbooks and peer-reviewed medical journal articles.

David Akinsanya, Programs

David O. Akinsanya is a result-oriented, goal-driven, innovative technology leader with profound understanding of technology and a proven track record of success. He leverages progressive professional experiences from System Engineering, Network Administration, Server Administration, Database Administration and leadership acumen to deliver efficiency and effectiveness that drive successful business development, growth and sustainability through value driven technology initiatives. David is a lifetime learner, thinker and achiever who is highly motivated to identifying and solving problems, improving processes, and helping other people succeed.

David is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) and a member of The Board of Directors of the Northern California chapter (California Association of Healthcare Leaders (CAHL), serving as Programming Committee co-chair. He is also a member of The Board of Directors HIMSS, Northern California Chapter, where he co-chairs the Program Planning Committee.

David holds an MBA degree with concentration in Information Technology, from Golden State University in San Francisco, Californian and has authored several Information Technology articles.
