Fall 2017 Newsletter - Sacramento Meetup Updates - MACRA and Machine Learning

By Evelyn Milani, HIMSS NorCal Sacramento Meetup Leader

The HIMSS NorCal Sacramento Meetup team has had two highly successful meetups these past few months with a lively, highly participative audience.

The Impact of MACRA on Physician Practices and Health Systems

Our panel of distinguished experts in the field of MACRA, payment policy, and overall healthcare policy provided feedback on lessons learned, policy changes, and how physicians have adapted to the policy.

This meetup was made possible by the gracious support of Sutter Health and the use of the Sutter Health Education Center thanks to Doug Angove, IT Director. Our panel moderator, David Ford, Executive Director of CALHIPSO, kept the flow and energy at a high level by engaging an audience full of many individuals and practitioners who are involved in the implementation of the technology supporting data collection. Panelists included an expert group of subject matter experts: Shanti Wilson, Organizational Design Consultant at Freed Associates; Kimberlee Snyder, Vice President, Lumetra; and Dr. Larry Ozeran, Strategic Consultant for Health Informatics, Organizational Governance, Health Policy and Software Development. The panel was able to share key elements of change management and support of the clinical staff before, during, and after implementation.

The meetup panel on MACRA was one of the most successful, and many attendees had great feedback!

Machine Learning & Data Analytics to Solve Real World Issues

We convened thought leaders on a panel to discuss what's happening now and the future vision for organizing healthcare data for better decisions and better patient outcomes. Our expert panelists were: Dr. Larry Ozeran, Strategic Consultant for Health Informatics, Organizational Governance, Health Policy and Software Development; Prashant Natajaran, Stategy Leader/Innovation at Oracle; Mitesh Rao, System and Patient Safety Officer at Stanford Health; and Alex Go, VP at Freed Associates.

Dr. Ozeran lead a lively conversation with panelists on how to garner executive buy-in for emerging technologies in analytics and machine learning. Panelists shared high level case studies and examples of successful implementations or projects in the healthcare or health plan setting and discuss lessons learned.
