Internships - Employer Information
(Prospective student interns, go to this page)
HIMSS Northern California is interested in helping further the educational experiences of health information technology students by facilitating internships at FQHC’s and Community Clinics. The program has two basic goals:
- To provide a student majoring in HIT with hands on experience in a clinic where technology is in use or being implemented.
- To provide the clinic or health center a resource to help further their use of and adoption of Health IT.
HIMSS Northern California is working with private and community colleges to select students qualified for the internship program. The student must be majoring in a HIT subfield and interested in furthering their experience by working in the IT department of a FQHC or Community Clinic. The intern will be approved by a committee made up of IT Professionals from the HIMSS Northern California Board of Directors, after they complete an application. Once the intern is selected by the committee, they will also fill out an application at a clinic who has requested an intern that is geographically consistent with the student’s location. The clinic will be given the opportunity to independently interview the intern and decide if they are the right fit for their current IT needs and for their organization.
Internships should last for a period of 3 – 6 months and the work assigned should be meaningful for the intern and provide insight and experience with the technical aspects of HIT related to that intern’s specific subfield. HIMSS Northern California requires the intern to have a consistent mentor at the clinic, as well as the clinic to monitor, measure, and report on the impact of the intern’s work during the internship period.
If your organization is interested in participating in this internship program, please fill out the application below and return it to: Kim Snyder, HIMSS Northern California Education Chair and Board Member at Large at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please note all applicants and interns will be required to be a member of HIMSS Northern California.
