President's Welcome - FY20

As the President for the 2020 fiscal year that began on July 1, I couldn’t be more excited about what is coming. I have been a member of the Northern California Chapter Board of Directors since 2014 and in that time I’ve seen a lot of dedicated and talented leaders create one-of-a-kind events, networking social hours, and comprehensive educational content. This year, I want to build on the progress the Chapter has made. Over the last couple of years, we’ve more clearly defined our values, put time into rethinking our mission and vision, put on some incredible events, and recruited top industry talent to serve on our Board of Directors.

One of our core strategic pillars for this year is to solidify HIMSS Northern California as a preeminent brand for Healthcare Technology. One of the best ways we can do that is to focus on what we do best –organizing top-tier educational events with name brand speakers at a price that won’t break the bank.

We also want to make sure that our energy is spent on the right things at the right time, so we’re going to reimagine our event calendar this year. To do that, we’re using data and input from you all, our members, to figure out what you want to see from us. Even though our normal event calendar --  leadership-focused CXO Conference, consumer-technology and patient-focused ePatient Summit, and innovation-focused Innovation Conference and Showcase -- has been successful for the last several years, we want to keep our content, topics, and speakers current and fresh.

We’ll also be focusing on expanding our Meetups and looking at new ways to deliver our top notch content in the form of web-based events, white papers, and more. As a native of the North Bay, I am especially excited about our new Meetups that happen monthly in Santa Rosa!

As part of the effort to rethink our events and content delivery, we will become a more data-driven organization. We’re in the most innovative and technically-advanced region in the country, so we need to make better use of the technology in our own backyard. We’ll be culling through survey results, membership data, and past event information to inform our decision making on how to engage you all in the most meaningful and productive way possible. However, data can only go so far, so we also want to hear from you directly. Please reach out to us with ideas on topics and speakers that interest you. We’re also looking for feedback on session lengths and event locations.

Don’t stop there, though -- we’re always looking for Board and Event volunteers. Joining our Board is a great way to get exposure in Northern California (and beyond), showcase your thought leadership or event planning prowess, and to give back to your community and industry. Just complete our volunteer questionnaire to help us understand where your interests are and one of our Chapter leaders will get in touch with you.

Finally, I’d like to present the additions to our Board of Directors for the upcoming year. We had a great batch of new volunteers nominated and saw existing Directors elected to new roles during our election process this spring. Each one of these leaders will make a great addition to our Chapter Leadership.
