Spring 2017 ♦ Sacramento January MeetUp
Good Energy Coming from the State’s Capitol City! Recap on the “Innovations in Healthcare, Progress and Challenges” MeetUp
By Evelyn Milani, Chair, Sacramento Meet-Ups
The Sacramento region has a robust healthcare ecosystem with people who share a passion for technology that is developed to improve patient outcomes, support better payment systems and policies, and improve efficiencies for clinicians and care teams.
NorCal HIMSS has hosted three well-attended HIMSS MeetUps to date in Sacramento. The Sacramento MeetUps are geared to promote dialogue and collaboration between innovators, clinicians, technology leaders and service providers on topics such as Patient Engagement and Information Security in the Healthcare Environment.
January MeetUp had a record seventy people in attendance (101 registered) for a panel discussion from some of the region’s experts on the topic of “Innovations in Healthcare, Progress and Challenges.” The panel provided a blended perspective; from rural healthcare using technologies such as telehealth and a severe need for more broadband, to large health systems that are using an agile methodology for rapid deployment of technology. Future views are exciting - one of the two large health systems is developing natural language technology and both are exploring machine learning innovations.
Panelists at the MeetUp included:
- Doug Angove, Director, Corporate IT, Sutter Health
- Eric Brown, CEO, California Telehealth Network
- Denise Pimintel, RN, Coordinator, Dignity Health Telemedicine Network
- Jennifer Stemmler, Director of Clinical Information Systems for Physician Experience, Adventist Health
