Winter 2018 Newsletter - CPHIMS Comes to HIMSS NorCal

By Jessica Ray, Marco Lopez, and Deborah Kohn, Education Committee

The HIMSS Northern California chapter is pleased to announce new developments to assist its members in obtaining the CPHIMS (Certified Professional in Health Information & Management Systems) distinction. As with any professional certification, the process may seem daunting and out of reach. But fear not! Our chapter will be offering two, in-person, day-long, CPHIMS examination review classes per year, one in the spring and one in the fall. We are also pleased to announce that members who have provided at least one year of volunteer service to our chapter will be eligible for reimbursement of the cost of the certification exam.

In the future, we will have additional information to assist our members in obtaining the CAHIMS (Certified Associate in Health Information & Management Systems) distinction.

CPHIMS is a health IT certification designed for health IT professionals with a Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and five years of information and management systems experience, three of those years in a healthcare setting OR a graduate degree or higher from an accredited college or university and three years of information and management systems experience, two of those years in a healthcare setting. Those who successfully pass the CPHIMS exam receive validation and recognition of their knowledge in facilitating and implementing health IT lifecycle events.

The CPHIMS certification review classes will be led by our own chapter members who are HIMSS certified instructors. Note that review classes are one of many resources offered by HIMSS to assist in reviewing and understanding the content of the certification examinations and are neither exam preparation nor exam preview classes.

Certifications are a great way to make your mark in your profession as it demonstrates commitment to expertise and involvement in advancing healthcare IT!
