CPHIMS

CPHIMS Certification Become a Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems! Members and non-members alike are invited to pursue certification leading to designation as a Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management System (CPHIMS). A. What does CPHIMS certification involve? The CPHIMS certification program conducted by HIMSS and has three components:

  1. Eligibility requirements
    • Baccalaureate degree plus five (5) years of associated information and management systems experience, three (3) of those years in healthcare OR
    • Postgraduate degree plus three (3) years of associated information and management systems experience, two (2) of those years in healthcare.
  2. A 115 item multiple choice examination that tests competencies in health information management.
  3. A renewal requirement every three (3) years (completed by demonstration of 45 contact hours of continuing professional education in information and management systems, with a minimum of 25 contact hours from HIMSS or HIMSS-approved continuing professional activities).

Certification is valid for three years, after which point it must be renewed through retesting or documentation of continuing professional education.
